About This Spot

Nestled quietly on a charming corner of the West Village, Gelateria Gentile feels like a well-kept local secret—a petite haven where the pace slows just enough to savor simple pleasures. The small storefront welcomes you with a modest, unassuming charm that hints at the genuine care behind every scoop. It's the kind of place where the hum of the neighborhood drifts by softly, and the air carries the light sweetness of fresh gelato mingling with the city’s evening breeze.

Inside, the atmosphere is intimate and effortlessly warm, perfect for a pause after a day spent wandering the nearby streets lined with brownstones and boutique shops. With just a handful of flavors thoughtfully crafted, the experience here is less about choice overload and more about savoring authenticity in each bite. Creamy hazelnut, bright lemon granita, or a rich, dark chocolate gently remind you how nuanced and delicate real gelato can be.

The rhythm is relaxed, marked by friendly exchanges that make you feel more like a welcomed guest than just another customer. This is the kind of spot where the owner’s warmth and genuine recommendations add a human touch, inviting you to try something you might not have picked otherwise—a little discovery that quietly sweetens your evening.

As you step outside with your cone or cup in hand, it’s easy to slip into the gentle rhythms of West Village life: neighbors chatting nearby, the occasional distant laughter, and the soft hum of street sounds mingling with the fading daylight. Gelateria Gentile isn’t just about gelato; it’s about capturing a small but meaningful moment of joy in the heart of the city.

DELISH!! Walked by this place on the way home and its small authentic look drew me in. This gelato was unbelievable and the owner was so friendly! The flavors my group tried were the hazelnut, chocolate cinnamon, and vanilla with lemon zest. All of them were so true to their flavor description, rich, creamy, and the perfect end to the night!

There aren't many flavor options, and to be honest, the best one was the hazelnut. It has a light taste, a good texture, and isn't overly sweet. The place is quite small, so don't expect to find it easily!

I was looking up the place where I was going to dinner and saw this place pop up right around the corner and said "why not". Glad I did. After a burger and some beers popped in here for a cone of chocolate chip and dark chocolate and it put a perfect end to the evening. If you are in the area and have a little sweet tooth craving head on over, you won't be disappointed.

Awesome little spot to grab some Gelato or ice cream. I actually would recommend the "Expresso ice cream". Everything we had was good. Place was clean and server was fast and efficient

We were strolling through the West Village tonight when a craving for gelato struck. We decided to give this place a try, and the guy behind the counter couldn’t have been kinder—he suggested the cherry and the lemon, and even offered samples. Both were delicious, so we grabbed a cup and sat outside. My husband, who swore he didn’t want any, ended up eating most of it. The gelato was clean and refreshing, yet creamy without being heavy. With every spoonful it just got better. A new favorite in the neighborhood—I’ll definitely be walking south more often.

Just as good as the Gentile in Bari Italy. Fresh, delicious. Never disappoints. I usually go to the Gentile in Brooklyn.
